Enable ‘God Mode’ in Windows 7

    January 11th, 2011
    1. Create a new folder
    2. Rename it with: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

    Windows God Mode

You will notice that the folder’s Icon will change to a control panel icon. Click on it and you will notice that it contains a number of control options listed. You can go through this list and see if you find any options or controls that you may have missed out from the numerous menus and sub-menus in the control panel.

Note: Works on 32-bit & 64-bit Windows 7. Also seems to work on 32-bit Vista. It does not work on 64-bit Vista though.

    Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 released

    December 20th, 2010

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials since 2009 and I really cannot recommend anyone a better Anti-Virus & Spyware solution which not only is FREE but unobtrusive and along with its low CPU usage, it works like a charm.

It is also available for free for small businesses with up to 10 PCs.

    Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0

    New Features in 2.0

Here are all of the new features in the latest release, which make it even more of a must-download:

    • Network Traffic Inspection integrates into the network system and monitors the traffic at a low level without slowing down your PC, so it can actually detect threats before they get to your PC.
    • Internet Explorer Integration blocks malicious scripts before IE even starts running them—clearly a big security advantage.
    • Heuristic Scanning Engine finds malware that hasn’t been previously detected by scanning for certain types of attacks. This provides even more protection than just through virus definitions.

If you already have MSE installed, it should update automatically.  If not, click here to download manually.

How to get the missing Android Market on your Android device

    December 16th, 2010

If you got your android phone or device like the Samsung Galaxy Tab from the Middle East (UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, etc.) you will notice that the official Android Market place is missing.

I got my Galaxy Tab from Dubai, UAE and I saw that it came pre-installed with the Slide ME app market. The apps selection on Slide ME is not the best and I was furious that Samsung does not inform its customers about the fact that Google Market is missing from its devices when sold in this region.

To get the Official Google Market app follow the procedure below:

    Note:

    • I have tried this on my Galaxy Tablet only. I believe it should work on other Android phones such as the Samsung Galaxy phone, etc.
    • This procedure may work for devices which are sold outside the Middle East (Such as North Africa) which are missing the Official Market App.
    • Please back up all your data as the following procedure will reset your ‘Internal phone storage’. All apps and data will be deleted and your phone will be reset to as it was on the first day.
    • All data on the ‘Internal Memory’ (On the tab there is 12.66 GB memory where I store my photos, music, etc.) was not deleted but it is a good idea to back it up none the less.
    • Following this procedure will convert your android device / phone to the UK sales region.
    • Try the below at your own risk. I will not be liable for any harm or faults that may come upon device. Read the entire tutorial below before proceeding so that you can evaluate the pros and cons.

    Now, for the procedure…

    ———-

    1.

Get the IMEI number of your device. On the Galaxy Tablet is written on the rear side of the device. Alternatively you can get it from the phone settings.

Go to Settings > About phone > Status

Your IMEI number will be listed there. It is a long number, for me it was a 15 digit number. Note this number down.

See pictures below for an idea:

    Android Settings Page

    ———-

    2.

Now open your Phone app (Go to the Dial pad) and enter the following:

    *#272*your device IMEI code#

Do note the positions of the * and # symbols.

See picture below for a better understanding.

As soon as you finish entering the info in the format instructed above a ‘preconfig’ sales code screen will be displayed as shown in the picture below:

DO make a note of the currently selected sales code in case you want to revert back. In my case (UAE), it was ‘XSS‘.

Now select the code ‘XSG’ and click on the install button as shown in the picture above. The XGS code is for the UK region.

Be patient, your phone will restart in a few seconds. Once it has finished booting up again you will notice that the Official Google Market app named ‘Market’ is present and the alternate app market such as Slide ME has been taken off.

    ———-

    3.

Make sure you go to the ‘Date and time’ settings and select the time zone of your country as the default time shown will be UK / GMT time. Go through all settings again and change it as it you had customized it before. You will have to re-arrange everything as your home screen and Application pages have been reset to default.

In case you want to revert your device back to your region, follow the above procedure again and on the ‘preconfig’ screen select the code of your region (In my case XSS) that you had noted earlier and click ‘Install’. This will reset the device to your region but it does not get back the apps and settings you had in place earlier.

    ———-

Why are there only free apps?

In some regions you will notice that the app wont display paid apps. This was the case for me in UAE. On my trip to India though, the market app displayed paid apps.

    All done, Enjoy!

Spaghetti Marshmallows: Star Ship (Level 31) walkthrough

    December 15th, 2010

I got my hands on a Samsung Galaxy Tablet a few weeks back and have been playing the highly addictive Spaghetti Marshmallows android game on it. Unlike other apps it is full screen and renders beautifully on full screen.

Reaching Level 31 on this game was no easy task and on this level, bubbles come into play. For those who have difficulty in completing this level, hope the below helps.

    The walkthrough:

    1. Create a triangular space ship with spaghetti sticking out on either sides. Try to make the structure as symmetrical as possible.
    2. Fill bubbles into the triangle, till you see your space (star) ship take off from the ground.
    3. Once it reaches the top you will notice that the spaghetti’s on the side prevent the ship from going any higher and are in place below the wooden structures.
    4. Now you can build upon your ship to reach the loops. Just make sure you add more bubbles to compensate for the added weight of the extra marshmallows & spaghetti that you may have added to reach all the loops.

Below are my screen shots from my multiple attempts:

    Pro tip:

    1. Structure is triangular as to avoid frogs.  Design seems to be more stable this way as well.
    2. While your ship / structure is taking off the ground and floating up towards the loops,  it may swing and turn from left to right. To steer your structure, add spaghetti on to the side opposite from the direction of the swing. The new weight will attempt to swing back your structure, once this is done click on ‘un-do’ and it is gone! Keep adjusting in this manner until your structure reaches the top and is in place due to the protruding spaghetti’s on the side.

Post your feedback and methodology below…
